Cabinet Refacing
One of the easiest and cheapest ways to make a difference in the appearance of you kitchen is do a cabinet refacing. When you reface the cabinets, you will be leaving the existing boxes and shelves inside, but you will be removing the doors and the outer edge that is still seen to be replaced, painted or just generally improved upon. Refacing is really easy to do, and you may find that you are able to do this simple work yourself if you have a free weekend and a spouse that is able and willing to assist you. Just think, in only a matter of days, you could have a brand new looking kitchen! Let’s see just how easy it is to reface your cabinets!
To start your cabinet refacing project, you will first need to unscrew all of the cabinet doors that are on your cabinets. After you have done this, you will need to get a hammer and gently start tapping the remaining edges that are left until there is a small gap between them and the main part of the cabinets. After you are able to squeeze a pry bar between the outer edge and the inner box, you will need to make sure and pry the outer edge off evenly, so you do not damage it. If you are planning on replacing this outer edge as well, it isn’t as important that you do not damage it, but you could still give this edge to someone that is building cabinets.
Once you have the doors and the edge removed, the fun can begin! If you are wanting to strip the paint off of them and stain the natural wood beneath, then you can do it quite easily now that it’s been removed! If you want to use a new painting technique to provide a fresh look in your kitchen, it’s only a matter of time before you are done! Cabinet refacing is really rather easy to do!
Of course, the biggest way to make your kitchen look new is to use a different facing from the one you removed. This will all depend on your budget and how much time you are willing to invest in your cabinet refacing project.
