The primary purpose of a pantry is to hold food and spices in an enclosed area that bugs and rodents will have no access to.  You will want to make sure that your pantry is big enough to hold all of the food that your family may eat in a month’s time, so that you do not constantly have to refill the pantry or make room for boxes of food that just will not fit in the pantry.  You will want to check the pantry and make sure that it does close tightly.  It should not be air tight, but it also should not allow for anything other than air to pass through the cracks in the doors. 

Before you even begin to look for your new pantry cabinet, you will want to look around your kitchen to make sure that you have a good space for the new addition.  If you will have to put the pantry far away from your food preparation area, it may become inconvenient to have to walk that distance every time you want to make a meal.  You will also need to consider the available wall space that the pantry will take up.  If you have to, you will want to rearrange your kitchen so that you can keep everything that you will need close at hand.
